SISTER ACT AUDITIONS FEB 23 & 25, 2025

Fairfield Center Stage (Christy McIntosh-Newsom, Artistic Director; Eli Newsom, Executive Producer) is holding OPEN AUDITIONS (in-person and video submissions) for its upcoming spring musical production of SISTER ACT on February 23 and 25 2025. See below for audition specifics including times. The show will run May 9-18 at Wakeman Hall inside First Church Congregational in downtown Fairfield. Seeking a diverse cast of adult (16+) singers/dancers/character actors to join our production. FCS is a community theater group and all roles are Non-Equity, no pay.

The staff for SISTER ACT includes Brian Crook (Director), Ken Legum (Music Director), and Bonnie Gregson (Choreographer). The production will run downtown Fairfield at performance venue Wakeman Hall (inside of First Church Congregational of Fairfield). Rehearsals are generally Mon-Thurs evenings from 6-9:30pm and Sundays from 3-7pm. Actors will not be needed every day until we get closer to opening. Required sitzprobe rehearsal (sing through with the orchestra) will occur on Saturday May 3 starting around 12pm. All tech rehearsals are required and will take place the evenings of Sun May 4-Thurs May 8 and hours are longer/later this week. Rehearsals will begin on or around Sun Mar 23 @ 3pm. Performance dates are as follows: Fri May 9 @ 7:30pm, (Sat May 10 @ 2pm hold for potential added performance), Sat May 10 @ 7pm, Sun May 11 @ 4pm, Fri May 16 @ 7:30pm, Sat May 17 @ 2pm, Sat May 17 @ 7pm, and Sun May 18 @ 4pm.

When: 
In-person open call auditions will occur on Sunday Feb 23 from 3-6pm, and Tuesday Feb 25 from 5:30-6:30pm. If you are unable to attend in-person auditions you may submit your initial audition virtually (see below for submission instructions). Appointments are highly recommended for in-person auditions. See below for the audition signup link. If you are experiencing symptoms of illness, please cancel your audition appointment and submit an audition video.  

Callbacks, if needed, will take place on Tues Feb 25 in the evening. Note that not all roles require a callback.

What to prepare:
Please prepare a brief song (under one minute) in the style of the show (singing from the show is ok). Please bring sheet music in the correct key. A capella singing is discouraged, and bluetooth/mobile devices with backing tracks will not be permitted.

After reserving an audition time slot, you will receive a link to fill out a digital audition form as well as submit a resume/headshot/recent photo.

VIDEO AUDITION SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: If you are submitting your audition virtually,  please submit (1) a video of you singing (guidelines follow) and (2) the audition form (link below). Video: sing an approximate one-minute section of a song in the style of the show (contemporary musical theater or disco song). Please use an accompaniment track (i.e. karaoke track, piano track, other instrumental track, guitar, etc). Some backing tracks can be found on YouTube. Please no a capella singing, as the production team needs to hear singing with accompaniment.

Email your audition via a private or unlisted YouTube or Vimeo link by no later than 7pm on Sunday Feb 23 to info@fairfieldcenterstage.org with the subject line SISTER ACT AUDITION. Please no email attachments - send a link to a hosted, playable video. Videos that do not meet these requirements will not be considered. If we need to see you at callbacks, you will be notified by Mon Feb 24 by noon (callbacks will be that evening). 

Character Descriptions:
A NOTE ON CASTING: We are committed to inclusive casting. Seeking actors, singers and dancers of all physical types, gender identities, racial identities, and physical abilities. 

SISTER ACT

Deloris Van Cartier:  THIS ROLE IS PRE-CAST  (we will be seeking an understudy)

Mother Superior: The sarcastic, somewhat stiff head of the convent. (Female, age 50-70)  Extremely protective about keeping her sisters away from the outside world, which puts her in direct opposition to Deloris and her musical teachings. Vocal range: Mezzo-soprano D3-E5 

Sister Mary Robert: A postulant, abandoned as a baby and raised at the convent. (Female, age 16-25) Shy and soft-spoken; singing with Deloris lets her find her voice. Vocal range: Soprano F#3-A5 

Sister Mary Patrick: A nun of the convent. (Female, age 35-50) Consistently perky, enthusiastic, and easily excitable. Vocal range: Soprano, Mezzo-soprano

Sister Mary Lazarus: A nun of the convent and the head of the choir. (Female, age 50-70) Rather deadpan and the least welcoming of any of the nuns, but she gets caught up in Deloris's soul music. Gender:  Vocal range: Mezzo-soprano F3-B4

Monsignor O'hara: One of the heads of the convent. (Male, age 45-60) Constantly concerned with financial matters, though soul music surprisingly puts him in a different mood. Vocal range: Baritone, E3-G4 

Curtis A club owner, notorious gangster, and Deloris's boyfriend. (Male, age 30-40) Cocky, controlling, not afraid to be violent. Vocal range: Baritone, A2-Ab4 

Eddie Souther The desk chief at the Philadelphia police station and a high school classmate of Deloris who helps get her into hiding. (Male, age 25-35) Gets anxious under pressure, causing him to sweat profusely. Still attracted to Deloris after all these years, he dreams of being her hero. Vocal range: Tenor, Ab2-B4 

TJ: Curtis's nephew and one of his thugs. (Male, age 16-30) Constantly in a state of ignorant bliss. Vocal range: Tenor, Db3-Eb5 

Joey: One of Curtis's thugs. (Male, age 30-40) Believes himself to be quite the ladies' man. Vocal range: Tenor, Bb2-Eb5 

Pablo: One of Curtis's thugs. (Male, 25-40) A natural follower, constantly speaks in Spanish. Vocal range: Tenor, C4-F5

Sister Mary Martin-of-tours: A nun of the convent. (Female, Age 40-60) Clearly in her own world, but has her moments of surprising clarity. 

Sister Mary Theresa: A nun of the convent, the oldest of the group. (Female, age 60-70) Decrepit at a glance, but secretly packs a punch. 

Michelle One of Deloris's back-up singers. (Female, age 20-30) Lippy and always quick with a retort. Vocal range: Mezzo-soprano, Bb3-F5 

Tina One of Deloris's back-up singers. (Female, age 20-30) A little thick and naive. Vocal range: Mezzo-Soprano, Ab3-F5 

Ernie: One of Curtis's thugs. (Male, age 25-35) Thought to be a mindless yes-man, but he turns out to be an undercover police informant.
